On Tuesday, October 6th, two Wakpala students who reside in Mobridge were diagnosed with COVID-19. Both students were immediately sent home and will remain in isolation for 10 days. They are not allowed to return to school until they are symptom free. The school has identified 15 other students as close contacts of the students who have COVID-19. All parents and guardians of these students have been contacted and instructed to quarantine their children at home for 14 days. They can return to school on October 16. Please keep in mind that children who have not been identified as close contacts do not need to quarantined at home because they have not been in close contact with a student who is positive. Close contact is defined as being within 6 feet for at least 15 minutes of an infected individual.
We encourage all parents and guardians to monitor your children closely and keep them home if they are sick and showing symptoms such as: fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or running nose, nausea, vomiting or diarrhea.
Otherwise, school is off to a good start and we are committed to delivering a full year of learning to your children whether in person at school or online at home. Your cooperation, patience, and understanding are greatly appreciated during these trying times.
